Gharial Fun Fact: A fun fact about the gharial is that its long, narrow snout is perfectly adapted for catching fish, its primary diet. The snout is lined with sharp, interlocking teeth that make it easy to grab slippery prey. Male gharials also have a distinctive bulbous growth at the end of their snout, called a “ghara” (after the Hindi word for “pot”), which they use to produce a buzzing sound during mating calls and to blow bubbles in courtship displays!
